Springtime Walks

There are many spectacular walks around the area. You have the Jurassic Coast walks, but there is many more you can do when staying with us in Dorset. These walks can be done all year round, but are especially special in the Springtime.

Kingston Lacy:

Walk through the gardens and surrounding Woodland of Kingston Lacy. Just a 40 minute drive to see the beautiful blossoms and greenery. As the seasons shift, the woodland comes alive with snowdrops, bluebells, and wild garlic, while playful Portland lambs roam nearby, usually close to the house where rangers keep a watchful eye on them. It’s an idyllic springtime walk for families to enjoy together.

Fossil Forest:

The walk to the ancient woodland starts from Durdle Door, right on our doorstep. Walk along the coast towards Lulworth Cove and continue onwards to the Fossil Forest. See the fossilised stumps and the ripple marks of an ancient sea floor. The history is truly remarkable. Get food or drink in Lulworth Cove on the way back!

Please check firing times as it is on military owned land.

Maiden Castle:

Maiden Castle in Dorset is one of Europe’s largest Iron Age hillforts, stretching across an area the size of 50 football pitches. Its impressive raised banks, first built around 2,400 years ago, once protected a thriving community. Today, it’s a fascinating place to explore on foot, offering stunning views across the surrounding countryside.

Arne Nature Reserve:

This Woodland and Heathland walk is a haven for nature. You are very likely to see all kinds of birds, and deer. The reserve is divided into two main areas, Shipstal and Coombe, with clearly marked trails throughout. Shipstal offers varied landscapes, a bird hide, and views over Poole Harbour, while the quieter Coombe side features open heathland with views of the Purbeck Hills and Corfe Castle. There is also an Easy Access Trail that provides a gentle 30-minute loop through woodland and ponds.

These are just a few of the many walks within a 30-mile radius that are well worth exploring. After a day of exploring, we’ll be here to welcome you back with comfortable accommodation waiting for you 😊
